Biomass & Substitution for Environmental Education Charity
Project Overview
Working with a leading environmental education charity in the UK, the project involved a diverse range of buildings, including stately homes and a Napoleonic Sea Fort. The goal was to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency across the charity’s portfolio whilst increasing the reliability of the centres.
Key Actions and Results
-
Substitution: The project included replacing oil boilers with gas systems, and in some locations, switching to biomass with gas as backup. This reduced reliance on fossil fuels and provided more sustainable heating options.
-
Energy Management: The project also identified and implemented opportunities for better control, insulation, and energy management across all sites.
-
Carbon Trust Accreditation: The works completed enabled the charity to achieve Carbon Trust accreditation, recognizing their commitment to sustainability.
Outcome
The energy-saving report was fully adopted by the board of trustees and financed, ensuring long-term sustainability and efficiency. The charity is now better positioned to continue its environmental education efforts while reducing its carbon footprint.
