Comfort Heating Electrification for Energy-Intensive Customer

Project Overview
For an energy-intensive customer within the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), it was identified that 2% of their gas usage was attributed to comfort heating. The goal was to achieve annual savings of 3-5%, focusing on optimizing comfort heating while other energy-intensive areas required more detailed optimization plans.

Key Actions and Results

  • Comfort Heating Optimization: Old, inefficient radiant heaters were decommissioned and replaced with modern electric heaters, improving energy efficiency.

  • Control Systems: The higher running costs of electric heating were mitigated by installing advanced control systems to optimize energy use.

  • Smarter Heater Placement: Smaller heaters were positioned closer to the workers in the areas they occupied, reducing energy wasted on heating unpopulated spaces.

Outcome
By modernizing the heating system and improving control, the client was able to achieve the target savings, reducing both energy use and carbon emissions while improving comfort and efficiency in the workspace.

Client Testimonials

"From understanding legal requirements of ESOS and EED the professional was able to design, instruct and have 42 reports completed across the EU and UK. The regulators confirmed the company was in compliance. The board was then able to prioritise necessary investment."

Christina Stapis, DNV Ltd.

"We've partnered on countless successful projects with great collaboration, consistently strong technical contributions, and drive to get projects over the finishing line. The outcomes have been a testament to the power of teamwork and execution. We look forward to our next project."
