UK & EU ESOS Compliance
Project Overview
Over 40 sites across EU and UK with 80% of sites associated with manufacturing across multiple sectors. Established baseline energy consumption from local supplies/onsite generation. In line with regulatory requirements reporting required assessment of energy reduction performance of previous 4-year cycle was required covering scope 1 and 2 consumption. Company then used output to allocate where capital would be extended to secure companywide reduction of Carbon footprint.
Key Actions and Results
-
Establish energy consumption: utilising either utility bills, conversion of fuels consumption or direct measurement each sites’ carbon footprint was determined.
-
Identify cost effective techniques to reduce discharges: Boiler efficiency upgrades such as an economiser, steam temperature, HVAC optimisation with inclusion of dampers, optimal % recirculation, addition of economiser on incoming air, use of renewable technologies such as wind or solar, and geothermal. Evaluation of waterfall diagrams and associated data whether estimated, measured or hybrid.
-
Compile reports: comparing progress against baseline 4 years prior. Making proposals on which options are to be recommend. Full Cost benefit analysis firstly to Board for approval and then to regulators.
Outcome
All reports conforming to individual country requirements. The company aware of associated compliance costs along with ROI. Corporate planning would then be made easier with respect to costs associated with selected projects. All reports accepted by regulators. Planned reduction projects would then be incorporated into the companies GHG reduction targets. Company able to validate release data and management of operations.
