Company Decision to move to Net Zero by 2040 with Interim Reduction Targets for 2030, 2035

Project Overview
Over 48 sites globally associated with offices and data centres. Established baseline GHG consumption associated with Scope 1, 2 and 3 (travel only), using estimated, calculated/measured data. Produced waterfall diagram with associated details for submission to Board for approval.  Used SBti and BREEAM protocols to review techniques available and complete data integrity and verification.

Key Actions and Results

  • Establish GHG releases: utilising either utility bills, conversion of fuels consumption or direct measurement each sites’ energy consumption as kwhr. Applied DEFRA guidance on business travel to determine scope 3.

  • Identify cost effective techniques to reduce discharges: For each site established baseline and scope 1-3 GHG releases. Investigated potential reduction measures; economisers and dampers on HVAC, controls system for floor floe reduction and isolation, insolation and insulation, lighting control, natural ventilation, renewables on buildings eg solar panels, wind energy, PPA with 3rd party renewable generators, optimized floor layouts, updating boilers on sites at Data centres, changing air cooling systems at data centres.

  • Compile reports: Costs-benefit analysis with recommendation and implementation plan generated for Board approval. Began to monitor projects for completion so that annual ESG reports demonstrated adherence to Net zero target.

Outcome
Report submitted to Board with details that would ensure Net Zero compliance for stakeholders who also invest funds. Some buildings were leased and the CBA for completing GHG reduction programmes was not viable. These offices were shut down. Project managers on sites confirmed data and costs for central reporting. 3 years in and the approach and reduction measures are on track with interim targets. Year on year validation of data and reduction levels by SBti.

Client Testimonials

"From understanding legal requirements of ESOS and EED the professional was able to design, instruct and have 42 reports completed across the EU and UK. The regulators confirmed the company was in compliance. The board was then able to prioritise necessary investment."

Christina Stapis, DNV Ltd.

"We've partnered on countless successful projects with great collaboration, consistently strong technical contributions, and drive to get projects over the finishing line. The outcomes have been a testament to the power of teamwork and execution. We look forward to our next project."
